What MFA should I use?
Ideally, you should use a method that is hardware-based or app-based. These methods are more secure than SMS-based 2FA.
- Authentication apps: Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator.
- Security keys: Physical devices like USB security keys
Why should you avoid SMS 2FA where possible?
SMS-based 2FA is vulnerable to SIM swapping. This tactic involves criminals tricking your mobile carrier into transferring your phone number to a new SIM card under their control. With access to your number, they can intercept those precious verification codes and gain access to your accounts.
